History: Much of the following information is what is commonly referred to as "headcanon." As such most of Alfred's personal history is based on what I know of American history, due to a lack of full history or personal biographic information given in the source. Hetalia is a series of mostly four panel gag strips, as such most of what we know about the country's personifications comes to us only in bits and pieces. It is enough information with which to form a cohesive and traceable personality, but not enough for an entire character history. I apologize for the inconvenience and will do my best to indicate the difference between headcanon history and comic fact whenever possible.

America's origin is unknown. Like many other countries he was found one day as a child by France and England as they were wandering through the wilderness of the new world. A battle ensued over who would be the new America's "big brother," and it was a fight which England eventually managed to win. Building a house for them to stay in together England managed to stay with and raise America for quite some time. He taught him manners and other important lessons any "civilized" country would require, but he couldn't stay forever and eventually had to leave to return his own house.

America was sad to see England go, but England promised that he would return. Eventually England did come back to visit the young country, but to his surprise, when he came back the small child he left behind was now a teenage boy in his prime, strong, fit and used to hard work. It didn't matter to him how he'd grown, he was still just as happy to see England as he had been as a kid. However soon it became apparent that living together as they once had wouldn't really be quite the same. England was determined to be the boss and continued to try to teach America the right way to exist. In addition his tsundere nature soon began to come through (only buy tea from me!) rubbing America entirely the wrong way.

Much to England's surprise it wasn't long before America kicked England out, demanding independence from the country who had always protected him before. England was outraged, hurt and upset that his younger brother would do this to him, especially after how he had protected him from France during the French and Indian War. At first England and his armies was easily able to best America in combat, but eventually, with the aid of Prussia and France, America and his ragtag rebel army were able to overcome England and ascertain victory.

The two have never quite been able to repair their relationship, and despite often coming to the others aid in times of hardship or distress they frequently quarrel to this day. Despite his sudden aid during the war America soon tired of France's company as well (who wouldn't) and began to spend his time in isolation from the other countries following his first boss' advice. Aside from internal fights and scuffles with his brother Canada and Mexico he managed to stay out of global affairs.

It wasn't until World War I, in fact, that America found himself involved in the world stage once more. Even before that however, during the age of imperialism America had been expanding his circle of acquaintances and had been pestering Japan tirelessly, much to the later's distress. After WWI America came to be known as a world power, and life for him was pretty good. At this time Lithuania began living with him and the two became close friends, however after the world depression he could no longer afford to support both of them and so Russia took charge of the baltic state's well being. I realize most of this doesn't make sense in a historical context but this is what happens in the comic so please bear with me through any discrepancies.

After working tirelessly during the Great Depression and enduring various hardships eventually war descended upon the global community once more. I'm sure we all know how WWII went down, so needless to say self centered America considered himself to be the hero of the war who graciously stepped in to save England, France, and all the other weak European nations. His fighting with Japan was intense and afterwards he was charged with "repairing" the same country he had attacked so whole heartedly during the war, this of course resulted in the American Occupation of Japan.

Following that immediately was of course the Cold War, where America's attentions became solely focused on defeating Russia (The Soviet Union), who he now considered to be his greatest rival. America went a bit crazy and the yandere side of his personality took over a bit during those years, and still affects him to this day, more notably in recent years with his war on terror. Some of his later bosses also managed to warp his mind a bit during this time, however no matter what history he has experienced he still retains his cheerful demeanor, and is at least on the outside, a caring buffoon whose idiotic tendencies result in accidental sleights to others.

Personality: America has a somewhat layered personality. On the outside he may seem like a smiling idiot. He's usually kind to others, though not necessarily considerate due to his inability to read the atmosphere. He always tries to play the hero saving others from the foul intentions of those around them or their own "wicked" devices, even if they do not wish to be saved themselves. He's a bit impractical and always coming up with unnecessarily complicated solutions to simple problems. In addition, he doesn't work well with others, often thinking he can do all the work himself, even though that's usually not the case.

Due to his long period's of isolation and young age he isn't used to dealing with others, his self-centered nature doesn't help and most other nations are put off by his blunt attitude and lack of consideration, but he's still young and learning. Although he can be an idiot he often actually uses the other nations misconceptions about his character to his own advantage, saying things most would consider rude and or insulting, and seemingly being able to get away with it because the offended party cannot decide whether the offense was meant or simply an accident due to his low intelligence and lack of understanding of the situation.

In addition to this method of bullying others, America also has a somewhat reserved and hidden darker side to his personality that can be quite cruel and even calculating at times. While normally he puts his overactive mind to good use creating strange inventions, and making overly convoluted plans, if he puts his mind to it he can come up with ways to really make someone's life a living hell, he also has a habit of obsessing to the point where all he can think about is getting his own revenge on someone for perceived sleights. This part of his personality came through a lot during the cold war area, and even now show's through with his focus on the war on terror, involving himself in a war with other nations, focusing solely on his own revenge despite the significant problems such actions caused.

Unfortunately when he gets into such a mood there isn't much anyone can do to calm him down or get him to stop because ultimately no matter how kind he is to others the only person he really respects is himself or his bosses, who's desires he takes to represent the desire of his own people. When the two conflict, the will of his citizens and the will of his president's that is, it often causes him to feel intense self conflict and emotional pain, and in such a situation he would rebel again, just as he had against England. Still there's only so much a country can do in the face of their own leader's instructions. Because of this, and again, because of his isolationism America often has only himself to rely on, and so usually never realizes his own mistakes or faults.

In fact in such situations the only person who really holds any sway over him is his own twin brother Canada. Canada is the only nation who has continuously been involved with America and can stand up to him when he's being a bully, of particular note was when he stood his ground during the war of 1812 the only armed conflict between the two nations. In one strip Canada was even able to lecture America for three hours straight about his poor actions, causing the United States to break down in tears. It's likely Canada would have kept on berating him as well if England had not interfered. Despite this closeness they do have a somewhat strained relationship thanks to the complicated bonds between both of them and England and France, however that's not important enough to explain here except in showing how Canada is usually the only one that America show's any amount of respect to besides himself.

Abilities & physical limitations:Although America doesn't have any spectacular abilities, besides super strength, as a nation he posses some unique powers congruent to all nations in Hetalia. The first of all are his communication abilities. It's never stated outright, but since most nations can speak easily with each other, their people, and each others citizens in the comics, it has been assumed by the fandom that they are all capable of understanding and being understood by anyone, even if they never had any formal education in any language besides the ones spoken on their own lands.

In addition, the nations have extremely long lives and age at different rates than normal humans. A nation will always appear to be a child until it becomes self-sufficient, this is the reason America was able to grow so quickly only in a matter of years, where as North Italy remained a small child for over hundreds of years only reaching adulthood after leaving Austria's house. In addition the countries won't appear to be old until they are on a downward spiral or on the edge of destruction. As such a country can't be harmed by normal methods either, since a nation will only die or "fall" when they no longer exist as a country and remain without citizens. Because of this America can receive extensive physical harm without actually ever passing away.

Finally an ability which is unique to only America is that he has super strength. Don't ask me why, it's just something he can do, like how England can do magic, and France can randomly remove all his clothes in the blink of an eye.

Title: Light of Right
In-game abilities: As the Light of Right America has power of ideals and motivation. He can illuminate the right way for someone else, strengthen their resolve, and help them focus on their own ideals. I'd also really like it if I could make this involve him glowing in the dark on command at some point, but hey you know, whatever. Ultimately his powers would be comparable to that of a bard, serving to fire people up and help to clarify questions of self and motivation. I think this would be a good power for America because he has a lot of strong beliefs and he's highly motivated, but the quests will often make him question things about himself. I think he really does need to question things about himself and really take a look at some of the principles he stands by and the way he acts on these ideas around others. Challenging him in this way would really help him grow and come into his own and I think would just be very interesting and fun to play with!

Planet: The Land of Bells and Grain is a land covered in amber waves of grain where freedom rings. Constantly. The bells just will not stop ringing. The rabbits think they ward off evil. The consorts are fluffy bunny rabbits in a variety of breeds, sizes, and colors, this is a land for rabbits of all kinds to hop free! Thats what the bells are for!! The denizen is a demonically empowered human bent on corrupting the land and the spirits of the cute little bunny inhabitants like a total dickface.
